Brazil exported its first cargo from the Mero field, the first discovery within the giant sub-salt Libra block, after production began in November.

The vessel Bossa Nova Spirit loaded a crude cargo from the Mero field, in addition to a cargo from the Lula field. The vessel transferred its cargo via ship-to-ship (STS) transfer onto the VLCC Aries Voyager, which also took on around 1mn bl of medium sweet Sapinhoa crude via STS from the vessel Vigdis Knutsen.

The co-loaded VLCC is currently heading towards Asia-Pacific, with one possible end-destination being China — Brazil’s top customer.

The Mero field sits in the northwestern part of the Libra project. Libra is operated by Petrobras and a consortium that brings together Total, Shell, Chinese state-owned companies CNPC and CNOOC.
