Event highlights: Innovation Series Houston
Highlights from our Innovation Series Houston event.
Coming off successful Innovation Series events in London and New York, it would be safe to say that our Houston event not only kept the momentum going but set new standards. It was a well-attended evening at the popular B&B Butchers & Restaurant where we met with our clients, partners, prospects as well as friends from the media.
We started the evening with our Founder and CEO Fabio Kuhn welcoming the guests at the packed venue followed up by a quick market update from myself. The highlight though for the evening was our panel discussion on the US’ role in a deglobalizing, volatile oil markets with an amazing line-up of panelists and moderated by none other than Paul Chapman, Managing Partner – HC Group and the voice behind the HC Insider Podcast. The list of speakers we had on the panel this evening included:
• David Wech, Chief Economist – Vortexa
• Amanda Townsley, Sr. Director Energy Research – CME Group
• Erik Broekhuizen, Head of Tanker Research & Consulting – Poten & Partners
• Clay Seigle, Director Global Oil Service – Rapidan Energy
This amazing panel covered the latest supply and demand side developments, oil trade flows in 2023 and what the future holds. For supply side developments, discussions revolved around OPEC+ cuts, consequences, political impacts, US shale’s ability to fill the balance and Saudi Arabia’s willingness to reverse course. For demand and trade flow discussions, the role of Asia and China in particular were discussed as also Europe’s role in it, changes in flows of crude oil and products due to Russia-Ukraine conflict and also their impacts on freight markets. Finally, our panelists discussed the future of these flows with the current lack of capital investment, ESG and climate change, also prices and what impact they might have in 2024 as it is an election year in the US.
We wrapped the evening with amazing cocktails and a networking reception where I had an amazing time interacting with fellow analysts, traders as well as our partners and I’m sure the rest of the Vortexa team did the same as evident from this photo of David indulging the attendees with his valuable insights.
We really enjoyed this evening, and it really cemented the importance of Vortexa’s insights and the value we provide to our clients. On a side note, we will need a larger venue next year given the number of attendees. I hope to see you all again next year at another successful Vortexa Innovation Series event.
