Celebrating Women’s History Month: in conversation with Serena Huang

International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month are global events celebrating achievements of women and raising awareness of challenges that women across the world still face.

To mark these events and open up conversations within our team, we invited various members of the Vortexa team to share their journeys, the meaning of these celebrations and women they find inspiring. This week we sat down with Serena Huang…

Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself, your role at Vortexa and what led you to the role you are in today?

I am an analyst in Vortexa’s Market Analytics team and my role involves providing thought-leading market intelligence for our clients. I have always been fascinated by the energy trading market seeing how critical yet volatile and opaque it can be. Over the past four years, I have seen how Vortexa’s real-time analytics data have added more transparency and facilitated trading decisions, and I am glad that I am still on this journey with my colleagues to build and bring more market intelligence to the industry.

In your opinion, why is it important to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month? What do these annual events mean to you?

Every woman, regardless of their background, history and status, deserves to be celebrated, loved and respected for who they are and will be. My desire is that all the women out there will know and remember this on this occasion.

Which women inspire you?

Madonna, Malala Yousafzai and my beloved mother. A common trait that I see and admire in them is their persistence, determination and boundless love towards others.

What was the most important piece of advice you’ve been given that you’d like to share with other women?

“The most alluring thing a woman can have is confidence.” – Beyoncé Knowles
