We wanted to find out what inspired Ayca to join Vortexa, what daily life in analysis looks like, and what she looks out for in potential new hires?

What inspired you to join Vortexa?

Firstly the vision of how Vortexa could help shape an industry for the better by combining modern technology with deep industry expertise. On a personal level, joining in the early days, it was exhilarating to work so intensely with colleagues to contribute to building and developing our system from scratch. Another inspiration was the opportunity to work in such a multi-disciplinary environment, with colleagues that have taught me – and still do every day – new ways of working and looking at problems.

”…one of the most rewarding things is seeing the huge advancements we make through the incremental daily improvements.

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

The completeness of what we do is impressive – both in terms of the breadth and depth of information we produce and cover. For an analyst this means there’s no shortage of things to learn, dive deeper into and out of which to derive real-world meaning. Much of what we study is unique data that adds something substantive to decision making in energy and shipping spheres, and beyond.

What does day-to-day life look like for you as Head of Market Research?

The expertise and deep industry knowledge of our group of market and data analysts is core to the workflows of other teams – be that R&D, product, commercial or marketing. So an important part of my day will be helping to coordinate these interactions, across global offices and teams, and making sure we’re moving on track towards our priorities.

The analysis team has a diverse remit of activities, including but not limited to, content production, client work, data quality processes and product advancements. I’ll be involved in these in different capacities. Aside from our planned and prioritised work, there’s always incoming ad-hoc requests that keeps all of our team on their toes.

What have been some significant milestone moments for you at Vortexa?

Aside from the major developments I’ve been lucky to be a part of, one of the most rewarding things is seeing the huge advancements we make through the incremental daily improvements. That requires patience and a day-to-day commitment to excellence. We’re pretty good at celebrating the small wins as much as the big ones.

”…it was exhilarating to work so intensely with colleagues to contribute to building and developing our system from scratch.”

What key qualities do you look for in new joiners hoping to join your team?

A passion for learning, a spirit for getting stuck in and a genuine interest in the types of problems we are solving in this industry.

How would you describe the culture at Vortexa?

An energetic melting pot of different backgrounds, skills, and talents – where people are generous with their knowledge and not afraid to challenge ideas.

Describe your working life at Vortexa in three words!

Lively, quick, rigorous.
